As Evangelicals we have no higher authority than the Word of God. The Scriptures themselves claim that they contain sufficient information to bring sinners from their lost state into a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, to feed them spiritually, ensuring that they will grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus, and will instruct them in God’s plan for regeneration, justification, sanctification and glorification.
Ps 119:130, “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.”
John 20:31 , “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
Rom 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
2 Tim 3:16,17, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
Heb 4:12, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
1 Pet 2:2, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.”
These verses show us that Scripture is sufficient in itself and needs no additions such as “Oral and Church Traditions”, and is the complete guide for the sinner seeking redemption and sanctification.
